Reports of issues with ChatGPT began to rise around 9:30 a.m. EDT and peaked at around 1,157 people just before 9:40 a.m., according to DownDetector.com.
Reports began to dip around 10 a.m., but rose again to just over 1,000 around 10:30 a.m.
The vast majority of issues reported, 93%, were with ChatGPT, though 6% of reports were about OpenAI’s website, according to Downdetector.
OpenAI’s status page said at 10 a.m. it was experiencing “increased error rates in ChatGPT” and they are investigating the issue, and at 10:54 a.m. the status page said OpenAI’s team was “working on implementing a mitigation.”

The page also says OpenAI has been having issues with new sign ups in certain geographies for one day in a bug affecting ChatGPT and other OpenAI products including Sora, Playground and Labs.

OpenAI’s outages follow two notable tech outages last week. On Thursday, Reddit experienced an outage for a handful of hours that impacted more than 35,000 users before they were resolved. And, on Tuesday, Meta’s Facebook and Instagram both had outage reports spike on DownDetector.com, with more than 4,300 users reporting issues on Instagram, primarily with the app and comments, and nearly 1,000 users reporting issues with Facebook’s website and login.
