The research highlights that six African countries feature among the top 10 nations facing the highest Schengen visa rejection rates.

African countries accounted for 2.8% of global Schengen visa applications in 2023, yet 50% of these applications were rejected.

This is according to a research conducted for Henley & Partners and published in the Henley Global Mobility Report 2025 Q1.

Comoros tops the list with a rejection rate of 61.3%, followed closely by Guinea-Bissau (51%), Ghana (47.5%), Mali (46.1%), Sudan (42.3%), and Senegal (41.2%).

“African citizens find themselves at the bottom of the mobility ladder, which significantly limits their access to international economic opportunities,” Mehari Taddele Maru, the professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, who conducted the study, noted.
