“With breathtaking views over the surrounding volcanoes and neighboring protected parkland, it is quickly clear why our mission is so vital. Immense care and thought have been poured into every inch of this haven, honoring the motivation it serves and the extraordinary adventure it promises.”

Perched at an elevated vantage point, Bisate Reserve offers unobstructed 360-degree views of all six of the Virunga’s dormant volcanoes, including Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno.

The lodge’s architecture and décor, crafted by architect, Nick Plewman and interior designer Caline Williams-Wynn of Artichoke Interior Design, reflect the essence of Rwanda, through their blend of thatch, timber, hand-chipped volcanic rock, exposed brick and basketry. This elegant fusion honors the regal grandeur and timeless traditions of the region while providing comfort for a maximum of just eight guests.

Each villa features private decks and cozy fireplaces, cocooning guests in supreme comfort with options for private dining, outdoor hot tub soaks, and tailored in-room massage treatments.

Additionally, guests can enjoy special screenings of wildlife and natural world documentaries, ensuring a deep connection with the lodge’s spectacular surroundings after a day of transformative trekking encounters.

Under the expert guidance of Executive Chef, Angelus Karangwa, the culinary experience at Bisate Reserve blends traditional East African flavors with refined elegance. Embracing a philosophy of simplicity and sustainability, the cuisine features local ingredients such as coconut, chili, ginger and turmeric, with a subtle nod to French culinary techniques. The reserve’s earth-to-plate approach is underscored by daily harvests from two on-site kitchen gardens, and when necessary, ingredients are sourced from local farmers.

The name “Bisate Reserve’’ evokes a place meant to be cherished and savored, which perfectly encapsulates the lodge’s commitment to reforestation and habitat preservation.

“Our core mission here is to transcend luxury hospitality to embrace a profound commitment to conservation, as showcased in the restoration of Bisate itself, with previous farmland now a thriving reforested area. Our ambitious rehabilitation efforts have seen over 100,000 trees meticulously hand planted to date, with the aim to safeguard, enrich and enlarge the natural habitats that sustain the species residing in these hills”, adds Kayihura.
