Obeng-John’s entry into the real estate industry was motivated by a desire to close the gap in luxury lodgings in Ghana. After going to Ghana in 2000, he observed a shortage of high-end residential options. “When I came out looking for somewhere to stay other than a hotel, the offerings at the time were quite limited,” he says. This understanding, along with his expertise in property development in London, prompted him to form Cornerstone Development.

Cornerstone’s portfolio includes a range of notable projects that have made a significant impact on Ghana’s real estate market. The company’s first major project, East Legon townhouses, marked the beginning of its commercial real estate journey in 2013. Since then, Cornerstone has developed over 10 projects, including Noble Square, Nyla Court, Nissi Place, Altitude Residence, and Aura Cantonments. These developments have added over 500 units to the market, primarily focusing on residential properties ranging from multi-unit complexes to individual luxury homes.

One of the company’s main projects, Ava Residence, is now being built in Accra’s airport residential neighborhood. With almost 12 stories, Ava is poised to revolutionize luxury living in Ghana. Although the project is still ongoing, 80% of apartments have been sold out, demonstrating the company’s repute.

Cornerstone Development’s dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed. The firm has won several honors, including the renowned Ghana Industry CEO honors and the African Arabian Property Awards. Obeng-John owes the company’s success to its meticulous attention to detail, both during and after construction. “For us, it’s not just about creating projects, it’s about what we do after they’re completed. We manage all of our projects and find long-term tenants for our investors, which distinguishes us from other developers,” he says.

In addition to luxury, Cornerstone Developments is committed to sustainability. Obeng-John is deeply involved in every aspect of the company’s projects, from selecting energy-efficient materials to implementing green technologies like solar water heaters and water recycling systems. “For us, it’s very important to try and build efficient homes. We always use low energy- consuming lights and appliances to ensure we’re delivering a better performing product in the space,” he says.

Ghana’s real estate sector is thriving, and Cornerstone  Developments is at the forefront of that expansion. With an emphasis on quality, luxury, and sustainability, the firm is not only changing the face of Ghanaian real estate, but also setting new standards for the sector. Obeng-John says, “Ghana is a very safe place to be, and investing in Cornerstone Developments is a great investment for anyone looking to bring their money into a thriving, emerging market.”
